How to Prepare Your Dog for Boarding

Planning a trip or needing extended care for your furry friend? Boarding your dog can be a wonderful solution, but just like humans, dogs feel more comfortable when they know what to expect. At DogDayz in Noblesville, IN, we want every pup to have a tail-wagging experience, whether they’re staying for a weekend or an extended vacation. Here’s how to prepare your dog for their boarding stay and ensure a smooth and stress-free transition.

Schedule a Trial Visit

If your dog has never been boarded before, consider scheduling a day camp session or an overnight trial to get a feel for the experience. This allows them to become familiar with our team, routine, and environment, making the whole boarding experience feel much more comfortable when it’s time for the real thing.

Pack the Essentials

Just like packing for a child’s sleepover, a few familiar items can go a long way. We recommend bringing your dog’s regular food, along with feeding instructions, any necessary medications that have clearly written directions, a favorite toy or blanket that smells like home, and a collar and leash. Bringing your pup’s belongings helps them feel secure and reduces the chance of tummy troubles or anxiety.

Make Sure Vaccinations Are Up to Date

Safety is our top priority. Before boarding, all dogs must be up to date on required vaccinations, including rabies, distemper/parvo, and Bordetella (kennel cough). Be sure to provide documentation before your dog’s stay to ensure a smooth check-in.

Let Us Know About Special Needs

Every dog is different. Whether your pup has allergies, separation anxiety, or special feeding instructions, our team is here to help. The more we know, the better we can tailor your dog’s stay to meet their individual needs.

Don’t Make Goodbyes a Big Deal

Dogs are incredibly attuned to their owners’ emotions. Try to stay calm and upbeat during drop-off—it reassures your dog that everything is fine and helps ease their transition into their temporary home away from home.

Trust the Team at DogDayz

At DogDayz, we treat every guest like family. From personalized care and comfy accommodations to plenty of playtime and affection, your dog is in loving hands while you're away.
